WEENY Todd was a legendary barber and serial killer who was especially adept with the use of a razor. Over the years, the gruesome character became a staple in stage plays, films, and –what else?– musicals.
Download: Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber, from Mutual’s The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, originally aired 1946/01/28, starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. (See the Jerry Haendiges Vintage Radio Log of the series.) Those wishing to know a little bit more about Mr. Todd may find more information at –yes– his rather grisly online fan site. |

This radio play is one of the stories included in Ken Greenwald’s book, The Lost Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. For fans of the original radio show, this is a good book. My edition was a Barnes & Noble reprint, and I don’t have the year, but it was originally published well before H. Paul Jeffers’ recent ‘The Forgotten Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,’ which is also based on the Rathbone/Bruce radio plays.
